The Golf Cart Showdown is a buyer's-side comparison site for street-legal golf carts — the vehicles the federal government calls low-speed vehicles (LSVs). We exist to answer one question honestly: which cart should you actually buy, and why. Every specification, price, and law on this site carries a clickable source and a verification date. No brand pays for rank, reviews, or placement.
Why we exist
The dealer floor sells. We don't.

Shopping for a street-legal cart is a minefield of half-truths. Carts get sold as “street legal” when they're only street-legal by a dealer package or the seller's own word. Prices hide until you're in the showroom. Specs get rounded up. We built the opposite: a place where the machine, the data, and the out-the-door number are all on screen, before anyone asks for your phone number.
How we verify
A cart only counts as a factory-certified LSV if it's registered as one with the NHTSA vPIC federal registry— the authoritative source, stronger than any spec sheet or sales FAQ. A cart that's street-legal only by dealer package is a contender, never a belt-holder, and we say so. Every number is re-verified on a schedule (prices within 60 days, specs within 90, laws within 180). The full standard is in our methodology.
How we stay neutral
We never invent specs, prices, or reviews — omission over guesswork. Dealers pay us for introductions you approve; retailers pay small commissions on parts links. Neither buys a better score, ranking, or verdict. The whole arrangement is spelled out in how we make money — if a revenue stream couldn't survive us publishing exactly how it works, we don't run it.
Who runs it
We're the Smith Family— Florida homeowners, in Tampa Bay. At the front of it are two discerning, frugal parents who run the showdowns: we love great machines, we hate wasting hard-earned money, and we will not put $15,000–$30,000 into a titled vehicle on a guess. Behind us is the rest of the crew — five kids and a dog — the reason a street-legal cart isn't a toy to us but the thing that actually hauls the household to the pool, the school lot, and the store.
The household is led by a 22-year military veteran and helicopter pilot, and that background sets how we judge a cart: methodically, skeptically, and with zero patience for a spec sheet that doesn't survive contact with reality. Most “best LSV” lists online rank whoever pays the biggest commission. We do the homework ourselves, verify every claim against the federal registry, pit the real rivals against each other, and put the winner up front — plainly.
This is the sister site to The Backyard Showdown — same family, same DNA: pick a winner, name what to skip, show the receipts, settle the fight. Florida is its own proving ground — full sun, salt air, and roads full of 50-plus confusing brands. If a cart earns a belt here, it earned it honestly.
