The short answer
For a Club Car DS (1995 and up) or Precedent, the best replacement brake shoes are the World 9.99 Mall set ($21.59), rated 4.6 from 429 owners and built to replace Club Car's 1018232-01; 10L0L's set ($23.99, 4.6 from 171) draws the fewest fit complaints. For an E-Z-GO TXT (1997–2009.5) or a Yamaha G14–G22, 10L0L's shoe-and-spring kit ($22.99, 4.5 from 289) is the pick, with MOSNAI's kit ($25.99, 4.5 from 239) the alternative. Most bad reviews in this category are shoes bought for the wrong cart, so match your cart's OEM shoe number first — and if you drive a 2017–2024 Yamaha Drive2, check recall 26027 before you buy: its free remedy is new shoes and pads.

Golf cart brakes are rear drums on almost every older Club Car, E-Z-GO and Yamaha, and the shoes inside them are the part that wears. A set costs $19–$29, but the shoe has to match your cart's backing plate exactly: in the critical reviews we read, the most common complaint by far was a shoe that was too thick or too long for the cart it was bought for. We ranked these on verified Amazon owner ratings read on 2026-10-04 — every listing's critical reviews read too, newest first — and on how cleanly each one fits the carts its seller names. The table below the picks matches each cart to its OEM shoe number.

World 9.99 Mall Brake Shoes for Club Car DS (1995+) & Precedent (2004+)
The deepest owner base for the Club Car DS and Precedent shoe: four shoes, two short and two long, built to replace Club Car's 1018232-01 on gas and electric carts — and, per the listing, the same shoe used on early Yamaha G1/G2/G8/G9 and 1986.5–1995 E-Z-GOs. Owners describe an easy swap, and one calls it "good quiet smooth braking." Honest catch: of its eight critical reviews, five are fit complaints, four of them from 2018–2020 — including a 1996 and a 1998 DS, both inside its stated range — and one 2020 owner says the cart took far longer to stop after several adjustments. No instructions come in the box, and the shoes go on in a set order — Club Car marks them 17T (trailing) and 17L (leading).
Owners say“These brake shoes fit my Club Car perfectly and have been in service for about 2 years now.”— Sam (Dec 2025), verified owner · Amazon

Check price at Amazon →10L0L Brake Shoes for Club Car DS (1995+) & Precedent (2004+)
The same 1018232-01 shoe from 10L0L, with the cleanest record here: only three critical reviews on 171 ratings, against eight on the winner's 429. The listing names every OEM number it replaces, for Club Car, E-Z-GO and Yamaha. Two owners report it fitting E-Z-GO TXTs from 2011 and 2013 on, which the listing does not claim, so compare your old shoes before you rely on that. Honest catch: a thinner base, $2.40 more than the winner, and one 2026 owner found the friction material 'very hard, not quite enough friction'.
Owners say“I doubt anyone could tell the difference between these brake shoes and OEM brake shoes. These brake shoes were just as good as the originals. They fit perfectly without modification.”— Stuart Anthony (Nov 2025), verified owner · Amazon

Check price at Amazon →CLUBRALLY Brake Shoes + Spring Kit for Club Car DS & Precedent
Four shoes plus the return springs, for owners who want to replace the hardware in the same job. The listing marks the shoes 17T and 17L, the way Club Car does. Honest catch: the critical reviews carry a pattern the other Club Car sets don't — four owners (2021–2024) say one pair fit and the other was too long or the wrong size, which reads like mixed parts in some boxes — and one 2023 owner found the springs lighter than the originals. Check every shoe against your old ones before you start.

Check price at Amazon →10L0L Brake Shoes + Drum Spring Kit for E-Z-GO TXT & Yamaha G14–G22
The E-Z-GO TXT shoe is the same part as the Yamaha G9–G22 shoe, and this 10L0L kit covers both, with the drum springs included — the deepest base for that shoe that comes with springs. It names the RXV gas, which MOSNAI's kit excludes. Honest catch: three of its eight critical reviews are owners who fitted it to a Yamaha G29/Drive, which it doesn't claim to fit, and two 2021 owners had to grind or alter the shoes to get the drum back on. One 2022 owner measured them about an eighth of an inch long against the originals.

Check price at Amazon →MOSNAI Brake Shoes + Spring Hardware for E-Z-GO TXT & Yamaha G14–G20
Four shoes and a full 12-piece spring hardware kit for both sides, with only three critical reviews on 239 ratings — the fewest fit complaints for this shoe. Honest catch: MOSNAI states plainly that it will NOT fit 4-cycle gas E-Z-GOs or the RXV, which the 10L0L kit claims, and all three critical reviews are about wear, not fit: shoes that broke within a month (2023), lasted under a year (2025), or weren't worth the installation work (2025).
Owners say“I used these to change the brakes on my 2002 EZ GO txt. … Brakes fit perfectly and have worked great so far!”— Taylor Antley (Apr 2025), verified owner · Amazon

Check price at Amazon →10L0L Brake Shoes for E-Z-GO TXT/RXV & Yamaha G14–G22 (4 pcs)
The most-rated shoe for this platform — 495 ratings — and the cheapest set here, with no springs. Honest catch: it carries the lowest rating in this showdown for a reason. The ten newest of its 25 critical reviews are nearly all the same complaint, shoes too thick or long to get the drum back on (2020–2023, several on 2005–2008 TXTs), and owners ground or sanded them to fit. Those complaints stop in October 2023, and owners since then report a clean fit, but we can't tell from the listing whether 10L0L changed the part.
Owners say“These go on a specific way and there are markings on the pads to indicate. … if you don't have them on correctly, the drum will not slide back on. Once I figured it out it slid right on.”— Jeff (Sept 2023), verified owner · Amazon

Check price at Amazon →World 9.99 Mall Rear Brake Drum for Club Car DS (1995+) & Precedent (2004+)
Replace a drum that's lipped, scored or cracked when you replace the shoes — new shoes against a worn drum don't seat. This single drum is the cheapest well-rated option for the Club Car DS and Precedent; 10L0L's two-drum pack (B08CX7HT2Z, $59.99, 4.5 from 148) costs more per drum. Honest catch: out-of-round drums show up in the critical reviews of both — a September 2026 owner says the drums arrived oval and had to be machined, and 10L0L's pack drew the same complaint in 2023 and 2024 — so spin the wheel and feel for pulsing at the pedal after you install it. The listing also names 1018232-01, which is the shoe number, not the drum.

Yamaha Drive2 owners: check the recall first
Yamaha recalled about 4,300 Drive2 PTVs from model years 2017–2024 (CPSC 26027, October 2025) because they "can fail to brake, posing a risk of serious injury or death" — and the free remedy is new brake shoes and pads, fitted by a dealer. If you drive one, look the cart up with Yamaha before you buy shoes. Our brake guide lists every golf cart brake recall we found.
Why we don't rank aftermarket E-Z-GO electric brake hubs
The two best-selling replacement drum-and-hub assemblies for the electric E-Z-GO TXT (OEM 19186G1P) — 10L0L's (4.2 from 698) and World 9.99 Mall's (4.4 from 382) — carry 74 and 38 critical reviews, and the newest ones tell the same story: the inner splines strip out within two to six months. Owners describe hubs that lasted 8 weeks, 3 months and "about a year"; one who maintains carts for an employer went through six in a year, and a golf course owner writes that the hubs "last about a year. OEM lasted about 10." Both listings warn that a worn axle spline will strip a new hub and tell you to replace both together. Until an aftermarket hub shows a better record, we'd look at E-Z-GO's own 19186G1P from a dealer, and check the axle splines whichever you buy.
Before you fit new shoes
- Back the adjuster all the way off before you try to fit the drum. The commonest "new shoes, drum won't go on" fix in owner forums is an adjuster that wasn't backed off, or shoes fitted in the wrong positions.
- Fit leading and trailing shoes where they belong: Club Car marks its shoes 17T and 17L, and E-Z-GO and Yamaha shoes carry their own marks.
- Replace a drum with a lip or deep scoring — new shoes against a worn drum won't seat.
- Adjust the brakes and the pedal free play to your cart's manual when you're done; most weak-brake complaints owners trace in the forums end at adjustment, not at the shoes.
- If the cart pulls, the pedal sinks, or the brakes drag after the job, stop driving it and have a dealer look at it.
No independent test has measured how well any aftermarket golf cart brake shoe stops, and no maker publishes a stopping distance, so treat claims like "30% shorter stops" as marketing. When you're deciding whether an upgrade is worth it at all, our brake guide covers the law, the recalls and front disc kits.
How we ranked them
Owner ratings decide the order within each cart family, read on each product's own Amazon listing on 2026-10-04 along with its critical reviews, newest first. Where two sets rated the same, a repeated fit or quality complaint in the critical reviews counted against a deeper base. We searched Amazon across all departments for each cart's brake shoes, drums and hubs, and checked the off-Amazon parts dealers too. Creator Connections commission is never a ranking input.
Frequently asked
- Which brake shoes fit a Club Car Precedent?
- The Precedent (2004 and up) uses Club Car shoe 1018232-01, the same shoe as the DS from 1995 on. The World 9.99 Mall set ($21.59, 4.6 from 429 owners) and 10L0L's set ($23.99, 4.6 from 171) both list it. Fit them in Club Car's order: the shoes are marked 17T (trailing) and 17L (leading).
- Are E-Z-GO TXT and Yamaha brake shoes the same?
- For the E-Z-GO TXT (1997–2009.5) and the Yamaha G14–G22, yes: the kits list both E-Z-GO's 27943G01 and Yamaha's JN3-F5330-00. They do not fit the Yamaha Drive (2015 and up) or Drive2, which use JN9-W2536-11, and owners who tried the G-series kits on a G29 found them too small.
- Why won't the drum go back on after new brake shoes?
- Usually the adjuster isn't backed all the way off, or the shoes are in the wrong positions — leading and trailing shoes are marked. If both are right and the drum still won't fit, the shoes may be too thick or long for your cart: that was the most common complaint in the critical reviews we read, and owners fixed it by grinding the shoe ends.
- Should I replace the brake drums too?
- Replace a drum that has a lip, deep scoring or cracks. For a Club Car DS or Precedent, a single replacement drum costs about $27 on Amazon. Check any new drum for an out-of-round pulse at the pedal — owners reported oval drums in 2023, 2024 and 2026.
- Is there a recall on Yamaha Drive2 brake shoes?
- Yes. CPSC recall 26027 (October 2025) covers about 4,300 Yamaha Drive2 PTVs from model years 2017–2024 that "can fail to brake"; the free remedy is new brake shoes and pads from a Yamaha dealer. Check your cart before you buy shoes.
