- An LSV equipment kit adds the gear Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 500 requires: headlamps, tail and stop lamps, front and rear turn signals, reflectors, mirrors, a windshield, a parking brake, and seat belts. The cart must also run 20–25 mph. A kit brings a cart to LSV equipment spec — it does not by itself confer factory FMVSS 500 certification.
- Does installing a street-legal kit make my cart an LSV?
- Not automatically. Equipment is only part of the test: registration as an LSV depends on your state's rules for converted vehicles, and a dealer conversion carries different legal weight than a factory certification with a VIN and Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin.
