STREET-LEGAL CART SHOWDOWN · SLCS · TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA · How we make money — dealers pay for introductions; no brand pays for rank.

Evolution Electric Vehicles D5 Maverick 4+2 Plus

The lifted D5 with a flip-flop rear seat for six: 6.3 kW, 48V lithium, 1,296 lb at the curb and a $12,999 MSRP. Evolution's spec book lists 19 mph, so it is a golf car until a dealer fits the optional LSV package; the 17.2 ft turning radius is the cost of the long wheelbase. Street-legal: no. MSRP range: $12,999.

Not a factory LSV — street-legal by dealer package or self-attestation

Same as the D5 Ranger 4 Plus: Evolution's spec book governs every D5 Plus to 19 mph, below the 20 mph LSV floor, and the street-legal build is an 'Optional LSV package (additional fees may apply)' — a dealer configuration, not a factory LSV. The 2026 model page now says 'Max speed: 25 mph'; ask the dealer for the LSV package and its VIN paperwork.

Our figures, from verified specs + MSRP — lower cost-per-seat and cost-per-mile is better; higher power-to-weight means more pep and hill-climb. Range uses the normalized estimate. Cost per kWh is what the price actually buys you in battery — the single figure that separates a cheap cart from an under-batteried one, and almost nobody publishes it. Pack energy is the maker's published kWh where they give one, otherwise volts × amp-hours.

Strengths

  • Seats 6.

Trade-offs

  • Tops out at 19 mph — under the 20 mph LSV floor, so as sold it's a golf cart, not a street-legal LSV.
  • Manufacturer hasn't published a range figure — we left it blank rather than guess.

Street-legal status

Not a factory LSV — here's the conversion path

Same as the D5 Ranger 4 Plus: Evolution's spec book governs every D5 Plus to 19 mph, below the 20 mph LSV floor, and the street-legal build is an 'Optional LSV package (additional fees may apply)' — a dealer configuration, not a factory LSV. The 2026 model page now says 'Max speed: 25 mph'; ask the dealer for the LSV package and its VIN paperwork.

The honest caveat

A kit adds equipment— lights, signals, mirrors, belts. It does not make a cart a factory-certified LSV. Federal LSV status (FMVSS 500 + a 17-digit VIN) is set at the factory and can't be bolted on afterward. Most light kits stop at lighting, so you may still need mirrors, a DOT windshield, seat belts, and a dealer speed increase to reach the 20-25 mph window — and some states won't register a DIY conversion as an LSV at all. Check your local golf-cart vs. LSV rules before driving on public roads.
